Domain AvailabilityInterpretation tips
- Public vs private IP: private ranges (like 192.168.x.x) are used inside networks and aren’t reachable directly from the internet.
- CIDR prefixes: smaller prefixes mean larger networks (e.g., /16 is larger than /24).
- WHOIS vs RDAP: RDAP is the modern protocol. Some registries redact fields for privacy or policy reasons.
- Availability checks: DNS results are a clue, but the registrar is the source of truth for registration.
DNS status is a strong signal but not a guarantee of registration availability. Always confirm at a registrar.
